Q: I was using the Lite version then installed the Premium version (instead of upgrading the Lite): how can I transfer the cards I had scanned in the Lite app to the premium installation?
A: Easy! Use the Web Sync service to upload your cards from the Lite version then sync-up with these cards from the Premium version. Here is how:
- Register for Web Sync within the Lite app (it’s free for one month and renewal is not automatic, no worries) by touching the Web Sync button on the start page
- Let it upload all cards (watch the Web Sync status message to know when it’s done)
- To make sure all cards are saved in your Web Sync account you can go to www.scanbizcards.com/websync from your desktop, login using the same email & pwd you provided in on the iPhone, all your cards should be right there
- Now run the Premium app, touch the “Backup my cards with WebSync” bar, sign-in (NOT register) with the same credentials: all cards will now get downloaded from the web sync account into the Premium app
Q: I am using ScanBizCards follow-up reminders. Can I sync ScanBizCards calendar reminders with Outlook or Google Calendar?
A: Yes, if you’d like to keep To keep Outlook or Google Calendar in sync with ScanBizCards events, please touch Settings on ScanBizcards’ main screen and look for “Reminders Settings” in the “Features” section. Make sure you really need to establish a subscription: for example, if your iPhone calendar is already syncing with Outlook via iTunes you do NOT need a ScanBizCards reminders. Instead, please follow these two steps:
- Step 1: Add your Google Calendar to your iPhone calendar – see instructions here
- Step 2: Now that your Google Calendar is one of the targets where you can add calendar events from your iPhone, you also need to make your Google Calendar the default calendar for new events – run the iPhone Settings application -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Calendars -> Default Calendar. Note: in a future update we will add a ScanBizCards setting to chose its target calendar for new events.
Q: I am using Exchange Server and have my iPhone contacts syncing to the Exchange address book but not contacts created by ScanBizCards. Why?
A: you need to set the default for new contacts to be created within the Exchange address book:
- Run the iPhone Settings app
- Under “Mail, Contacts, Calendars”, select “Contacts”, then “Default Account”
- Set the default account to “Exchange” (instead of “My iPhone”)
Note: you also have the option to selectively add contacts directly into Outlook or the Mac address book from your desktop, by using the ScanBizCards Web Sync service, which includes a full web-based card management application. Click the Web Sync Settings button on the application start screen to get started!
Q: how do I delete cards from the card folders?
A: deleting a card can be done in several ways:
1. From card view, for example after you take a new photo, scan it, possibly add it to the address book, then touch back to the screen where the card is shown full screen:
– touch the “actions” button (bottom left)
– select “Move to Folder/Delete”
– first option is “Delete”
2. From the folder level view. For example, from the startup screen touch Explore My Cards, then touch All Cards. From that screen, there are two ways:
– To delete a single card, the easiest is just “swipe delete”, i.e. sliding your finger across the card entry. This brings up a red delete button.
– To delete multiple cards, touch Edit on the top right, then select multiple cards, then touch Delete at the bottom
Q: Sometimes at the start of the scanning process ScanBizCards is warning that it failed to detect orientation. What does it mean?
A: ScanBizCards automatically detects orientation to enable you to take photos in any direction. This process occasionally fails – but even in such a case, if you followed the on-screen guidance on how to position the card when taking a picture, ScanBizCards will still orient the card properly. If the scanning process still fails to orient the text upright, please use the rotate button then rescan.
Q: So what’s this new Web Sync service all about?
A: this is a long awaited features requested by several customers. It means never losing a card again. It also provides you with web-based access to your rolodex of cards from any browser and you may find it convenient to edit card info through that web-based interface sometimes. And it also enables you to keep multiple devices running ScanBizCards fully synced! read more about it here. Just touch “Web Backup Settings” on the main screen to get started.
If you are curious what a Web Sync account looks like, check this one (and make sure to click MapIt on the top left!)
Note: www.scanbizcards.com/websync is the web-based interface to your cards, from any browser. Sign-in with the same credentials you used to start the Web Back account on your device.
Q: I just took several photos of business cards and ScanBizCards failed to recognize almost any text! What’s going on?
A: Image quality is extremely important and knowing what to do (or what not to do) when taking a picture can make the difference between perfect results and very poor results!
We recommend taking a quick look at our Photo Taking Tips – here are the top 3 reasons you might be failing to get good scans:
- You have the iPhone 3G, iPod Touch 4 or iPad 2: the camera in these devices is not sufficient to take close-up pictures of small text! The Griffin Clarifi case accessory provides a solution for the iPhone 3G
- The text is too small: text must be as large as possible, which means aligning the long side of the card with the long side of the iPhone and coming as close as possible to the card.
- The image is blurry: even if it’s readable to the human eye, a blurry image is very difficult to scan. Hold steady and make sure the camera has focused on the text (if not, you can help the lens focus by tapping the screen)
Q: when using the Quick Intro feature or export to Excel, the recipient gets the data embedded as text within the email, as opposed to an attachment.
A: this may be because your default email account on the iPhone is Yahoo. Yahoo email has a bug where it converts attachments to plain text. If you have other email account defined on your iPhone, please set the default mail account to another email account.
Q: I upgraded the Lite version using the in-app purchase option, but the icon on my home screen still has the “Lite” caption. Did the upgrade work?
A: Yes, it’s just that an app on the iPhone can’t change its own icon.
Q: Can I scan cards without adding them to the Address Book?
A: We are glad you asked! Of course – scanning a business card or street sign you want to use but not add it to your address book makes perfect sense. After the scan, you will be presented the recognized text items for verification. On that screen, instead of touching “Add To Address Book”, just touch the Back button. The image will be saved in Recent Cards and you can load it at any time to use actionable items on that card by touching them or add a follow-up reminder to the calendar.
Q: I used the rotate button and then nothing got recognized properly!
A: the purpose of that button is only to rotate the image manually after a scan where we failed to automatically rotate the image so that the text is upright. You should be needing to use it only very infrequently.
Q: How do I crop a card image to eliminate background?
A: Since October 14 (V2.78) the image is automatically adjusted if you crop the image before scanning. Note: if you prefer not to adjust the image to the scanning crop area, you may disable the “Crop on Scan” setting. You can also adjust the image later to a crop area different that what was scanned using the “Crop” button.
Q: I made a change to a card previously scanned yet the address book information has not been changed?
A: we don’t automatically update the address book entry linked to a card. To do that, go to View Details, touch Save to Address Book on top right, choose “Merge with existing contact”, select the previous entry. You can also touch the address book icon for that card in the cards view and repeat the edit there.
Q: The Help pages within the app don’t seem to cover the new calendar reminders feature. Where do I find out more information?
A: The calendar feature results from the integration of the CallMeet iPhone app into ScanBizCards [note: you got two apps for the price of one!] and has its own FAQ page.
Q: If I delete a card, does it also delete the related Address Book contact and calendar reminder?
A: No, it only deletes the card image and saved scan results.
Q: Exporting to Excel creates an email with text embedded in the email instead of a CSV attachment.
A: This is a known problem when using Yahoo as the default email account for sending email, please change the default email account on your iPhone (Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars, touch another email account, make it the default). Note: we have also received one unconfirmed report of a problem with Microsoft Exchange Server as the default email account.
Q: I edited the text of my Quick Intro e-mails from the settings, but when I go to actually send a Quick Intro e-mail, the formatting is different (i.e. newlines are ignored)?
A: Versions 3.04 and below have a bug whereby the text you save for Quick Intro emails is treated as HTML. This will be fixed in the next release. In the meantime, if you’d like to get newlines into your saved text, just write <br> instead of a plain newline. Also, for you HTML mavens out there, feel free to use your own basic HTML tags (iPhone doesn’t support many) to jazz up your e-mails. For example: Hi Dave<br>It was <b>GREAT</b> meeting you today!

How do I upload data to Evernote from the premium app?
Once you scanned a card and add it to the address book, just get back to the card view. On the bottom left you will find the actions button (with an arrow on the button): touch it, the last option in the list is “Export to Evernote”. You’ll need to enter your credentials one time.
My calendar reminders are not syncing with my iPhone calendar…I watched the tutorial video but still no luck.
The iPhone calendar needs to be subscribed to ScanBizCards event. You were prompted to do so the first time you added a calendar reminder but perhaps it didn’t happen? You can do it again if needs be at any time:
– from the start screen, touch My Reminders
– touch Settings at the bottom right
– touch Subscribe (large blue button)
Please let me know if that worked.
The good news is that we are working on doing away with the need to subscribe in an update soon.
Patrick
Thank you so much for your timely reply, Patrick! Either it did not prompt me or I just didn’t pay attention and clicked cancel. I don’t remember getting a prompt. Anyway, your instructions did the trick. Thanks again.
Why do all my cards (in card view) show a date of Jan. 13, 1970?
Our bad – we just uploaded to the market a V1.02 updated package with a fix for this bug, please update your app and all dates for past and future cards should show correctly!
Every time I try export my scanned cards to excel the app quits. Does not matter if I choos one or ten the app quits without doing what it has to do every time
Exporting the Excel delivers the results by sending an email with the attached CSV file, which requires that an email account be defined on the device. Is this the case for you? If not, the exporting can’t work – we should of course fail gracefully and explain why but perhaps we don’t – indeed in another app (Contacts2Excel) we were crashing in that situation instead of a graceful error before fixing this in that app.
Is there an easy way to get te scanned info into Good – enterprise?
Hi Brandon,
I am not really familiar with Good Enterprise but I would assume they support importing from an Excel CSV file? If so just select cards in ScanBizCards then export to Excel – either from the app on your iPhone or from our web sync interface. Note: the Excel export is not available in the Android version of ScanBizCards but you can do it from the web instead.
I need a scanner that will allow me to export the information to my blackberry. How do I do this? I have an ipad2 and a MacBook (where I use Microsoft entourage address book).
We don’t have a Blackberry mobile app at this time but I imagine that you can use our app in several ways to scan business cards into your Blackberry address book. One way is this:
– snap photos of business cards with your BB or using a flatbed scanner
– then your choice: either place these photos somewhere on the desktop, upload to our web interface and OCR there – or get the images onto the iPad 2 and scan there
– either way, once cards are scanned you can email yourself all the VCards to your BB and click them to add to your address book
Note: this is clearly not as convenient as being able to do everything on your BB (when we have an app for BB phones down the road)!
My scanned cards are NOT getting added or updated in Google, help!
Tell me more how you “linked” your phone contacts to your Google contacts. But regardless I recommend saving from the app directly into Google: on Android right after you tap Add To Address Book there is a screen showing the suggested target address book. Did you try tapping that name? You should get a list of all address books and select Google.
I cant log into my salesforce account from my phone using your app, however I can log in using your same app on my Sony tablet. Please advise.
Can you provide more details? Any error messages?
When croping cards they dissapear. Where do they go, how do i get them back?
Hi Rick,
Can you tell us more? Cropping cards in the app simply adjusts the image and stays on that image in the app. Are you referring to cropping cards online using Web Sync? In that context, cropping a single card image also refreshes the display to show the cropped card. When cropping in multi-card mode cropping creates the cropped card in “All Cards” while staying on the larger image: is that what you mean by “disappear”? The cropped card will be visible as soon as you return to thumbs view.
Patrick
I added another side to a card that it does not belong… How do I remove it?
Thank you-
Not at all obvious … here is what you need to do:
– open the card
– touch “Other Side” (to display the back side)
– Actions menu (bottom left) -> Move/Delete -> Delete
– it will prompt you to chose between deleting the entire card or just the side that’s showing
By the way: on the web there is no way to delete a back side (yet).
Taking the orveview, this post is first class
Hi,
When testing the Free app it seems to crash (force close on android Galaxy SII) if there are 2 addresses but I cant delete the second address field and even if I choose the correct address on upload it still closes.
Second question (sorry)
What exactly is the difference between the premium app and the free one?
Thanks
R
Hi Robin,
Yes, our bad – we will fix the SF export with two addresses soon + also provide a way to delete addresses. The free app is limited to 2 saves to the address book per week, no Salesforce export (after 2 or 5 trial exports), no LinkedIn, just one custom folder, no Data.com (Jigsaw) export, no email signatures (clipboard text) capture. I think this is all listed at the end of the Lite app description on the Android Market.
How can I forward a card to a friend ?
On the iPhone:
– touch a card to open it
– touch the actions button bottom left
– select Forward / Export then Email
On Android it’s part of the Card Actions menu, select Forward Card.
Pretty nice app. So far I am experiencing a problem when using the call feature from the card. App displays correct number choices, but once the choice is made it sends some very long series of numbers to the dialer that results in a un recognized number.
-Ryan
Yes, this issue has been reported by 3 users so far as is perplexing to say the least … we’ll offer 1 free year of web sync + 3 free copies of the app to anyone who provides a hint pointing us to the solution!
Here is one possible cause, see this app: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.cabildo.callingcard
This app causes EVERY call placed on the phone to automatically dial first a specified calling card sequence. You sure you never used that app (or similar apps)?
Can I sync phone contacts to gmail address book?
ScanBizCards saves contacts to the iPhone address book, then you can go into the iPhone settings -> Mail, Contacts and Calendars and set up syncing between the iPhone contacts and Gmail – that is how I work with ScanBizCards and gmail. There are other options such as exporting cards to Excel and then into Gmail, or doing Forward Card to yourself and read that email on your desktop to save the attached VCF into gmail. Lot’s a lots of options …
On Android it’s simpler: after you touch Add To Address book, on the next screen touch the address book suggested (local) and change to Gmail.
I have the app on my iPad and iPhone, I thought I would be able to sync them, but no luck…any suggestions?
Keeping the two in sync simply requires signing up for web sync on the iPhone (by touching the web sync bar on the main screen) then signing in (not sign up this time) in the app on the iPad using the same web sync account. Let me know if you have any issues doing that!
Very handy app, thank you. Please would it be possible to add in a field for Twitter names and the ability to follow people. I sync in with Gmail, which doesn’t yet support Twitter, annoyingly, but it would be really handy. Thanks!
Makes sense – adding to to do list!
Thanks!
Somehow, I inadvertently transferred all my scanned cards into my iphone phone address book. They do not show in the scanbizcards app any more under any folder. Is there a way to migrate the scanned cards back into the scanbizcard app where I can thumb through the cards in the 3d viewer that I originally was using to see them with? I. e. is there a way to get them back into scanbizcards instead of in the iphone address book?
Sorry for the late reply … this is very, very surprising! How did you transfer the cards to the iPhone address book such that it caused that?
One (simple) way to recover all the cards might be is you were using Web Sync: is this the case? Otherwise I am afraid there is no mechanism for transferring back into ScanBizCards. But a thought: depending of your reasons for wanting the contacts back within ScanBizCards, perhaps you could consider instead installing our other app Power Contacts? That app inherited much of the ScanBizCards features and applies directly to all the contacts in your address book. Take a look at the App Store description:
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/power-contacts/id476986356?mt=8
I just did an in app upgrade from lite, but I am going to upgrade my iPhone in a few months. Will I have the full version on my new one when I run from my backup or if I need to perform a reinstall?
In theory restoring your new iPhone from iTunes should restore apps but no matter: you can always reinstall paid apps at no cost if you use the same iTunes account. I recommend that you sign up for web sync in your app before switching (free for 30 days) so as to save & restore your cards.
How do I delete a folder?
Hi Doug,
Sorry for the late reply …
– touch Explore My Cards
– on the next screen showing the list of folders touch Edit
– little radio button appear next to each folder, select one or more folder(s)
– touch Delete at the bottom
How go you search contacts on iphone app
Touch Explore My Cards, then on the next screen look at the very top where you will find a text box and a search button.
I use Touchdown Exchange to sync contacts from Outlook. My phone is a HTC Using Android. I am using the lite version and it will not add to my contacts. I am hesitant to upgrade to full version without knowing it will add scanned cards to my contacts.
@Steve
ScanBizCards can add to your phone’s address book. Touchdown Exchange has a problem interacting with the Android Contacts, so at the moment there is no way for you to get the contacts from your address book into Touchdown. As soon as Touchdown fixes their interactions with the Android address book, you should have no problems with adding a card into the Touchdown account.
How do I get to name my cards? Where I view the cards it states no name above the card.
“No Name” just means there is no name assigned for the card (“First Name, Last Name”). You can just scan the card, but if the scan fails to detect the person’s name, you can just use the “Add Field” button on the screen showing the scan results, to add a new text item with the name and with type “First Name, Last Name”.
Is there limit to the number of card that I can scan?
Not in the paid version, but the Lite (free) version has a limit of up to 3 cards per week saved to the address book.
I was able to upload only one business card to Evernote. Now every time I try, it appears to be uploading for about 30 seconds but then message says failed: note could not be uploaded please try again later. I am connected to wifi and I have the upgraded/premium versions of both ScanBiz and Evernote. Please help. Thanks.
We are not aware of that issue so I assume it’s on Evernote’s side. One thing to try just in case: touch our Settings icon then the Evernote settings and reset credentials, then try again.
One more important note:Evernote has made a change to their backend which required a change in our app. Can you make sure you are running the latest version of the app (3.17)? Touch Help and take a look at the title of the help window. If not 3.17 please update from the App Store.
Good product
Merci!
Is there a way to have them in alphabetical
Order and not just as they were entered ?
Or a search feature ?
3 sorting options are available on each view showing a list of cards, on top (3 buttons – by date, name, company). To search:
– Android: note the search button at the bottom right after you touch Explore My Cards
– iOS: there is a search box right on top of every view showing a list of cards (e.g. All Cards)
Hi, i by chance deleted a folder I had created before. Can I restore that folder (my stupid mistake. it took me much time to scan hundreds of name cards 😦 )? I would be much much grateful if I can restore that folder. Many thankssss
Hi Thu,
I know this is super out of date, but did you by any chance have WebSync back up set up? If you did please go to support.scanbizcards.com and submit a ticket and we should be able to get your cards restored to you.
Other than web sync, is there any other way to back up the entire scanbiz database? Tried it through iTunes by backing up my ipad, then deleting the app from my ipad, then syncing my ipad back to itunes again. The app was restored, but no data.
I really wish iTunes back up would work as advertised but many users have had the same experience as you :-(. This is the main reason we implemented our own Web Sync mechanism. If the $10/year is an issue note that you can offset the cost by sharing the app with others – touch the Share button on the main page. You will notice at the bottom of the page a URL where you can track the status of your referrals: on that page there is an option to convert referral payouts to free Web Sync months so that effectively Web Sync is free if you have 10 friends adopt the app each year.
Another backup option: export all cards to Excel. This will not save card images but will still provide backup of the contact info and our other app Power Contacts can be used to restore from that Excel CSV into the address book (including the option to assign all the contacts to a group so you can identify them).
Thank you.
May I know if the scanned business cards images n details are saved and stored inside the Sd card or phone memory ?
I want to save in the SD card
Hi Ivan,
Thanks for your question! The card images are stored on the SD cards. You can find them in /com.scanbizcards(.key)/files/
hi, i am using the ipad version & i have 4 issues with the app..
1) After exporting to excel as csv file, not all data is exported. E.g. For a name card, there are a few work & fax numbers, but after exporting, there is only 1 business phone & 1 business fax column where only the 1st work & work fax numbers are exported to excel. This means i have to input the other numbers again.
2) The address field is wrong when exported. data in the business address will be in business state, city, postal & country depending on how long the address is, where everything is pushed to the right & i have to manually cut & paste it back to business address.
3) The suffix field is not exported over to excel.
4) Whenever i choose the fax option from the drop-down list, the number will become “Unrecognized text”.
will u guys pls look into these? thank you.
Hi Ben,
Sorry for the delay!
1.) This should have been fixed in one of our latest app updates. please update and check.
2.) This also should have been fixed
3/4) I believe these have also been fixed, but I shall check and make sure.

How do I send contacts to outlook
Hi Mark,
Sorry for the long delay. The easiest way to send contacts to Outlook, while at the same time protecting your data is to sign up for a WebSync account. You can do this on your device for a whole month for free by clicking “back up now on websync”. You can then log in online at http://www.scanbizcards.com/websync and choose Export > Outlook and send your contacts to Outlook.

I’ve bought the premium app, but after selecting my preference for Salesforce, i cannot go back to the settings. The app just crashes. Ive tried restarting the phone and app but it does not help.
What can i do to get it to work?
Is there a manual way to edit the settings?
Hi Niraj,
I hope this is no longer an issue for you and I am sorry for the long delay. If you haven’t please make sure you have downloaded the current version of the app and try again.

Like the app. Would be useful to roll out through my company. Any way you can have multiple users all syncing to the server?
Do you mean having several users share a single web sync account? Certainly – just keep in mind it’s bi-directional, all users would see each other’s cards on their mobile devices.
Patrick
Great….how do I go about setting that up?
Simple – just create that web sync account from within the mobile app or directly at http://www.scanbizcards.com/websync then have each member of the team sign in with the same credentials.
Hi, I would like to move multiple cards to a folder (on my iPad). I can’t see how to select and drop multiple cards.
I assume you are using the iPad HD app? Any operation on multiple cards is in the “actions” view, which you get to by touching the button with an arrow on it on the middle of the toolbar on top. In that view touching cards adds them to the set of selected cards and then you can choose an action on the right.
Patrick
I’ve just installed the Pro version on my iPhone 4s. However, I can not get to move the cards to my contacts on the iPhone. In Settings/Privacy/Contacts there is no mentioning of Scanbizcards. What is the solution?
– Hian –
When you start ScanBizCards it prompts you to allow access to contacts – whether you say Yes or No, an entry should have been created under Settings -> Privacy -> Contacts. Perhaps this prompt got lost somehow. My best suggestion would be to uninstall then reinstall the app (there won’t be a charge).
Patrick
Hi Patrick,
I’ve unstalled and reinstalled the app. However, under Contacts no entry is created. And, yes, a promt does show on starting the app. Nobody else has experienced this problem? I have version iOS 6.1.3
Can i port from cardmunch which is associated with linked in?
When I export to an excel CSV file, information captured on the back side of a card is never exported. Any ideas why this is happening?
Thanks for reporting – indeed, and we are fixing this bug for the 4.02 update (September).
It would be nice to have a bulk scan fonction like what one of your competitor propose.
Hi Chris,
We are working on a bulk scan feature. It should be out in one of our next iterations of the app. Thanks for the feedback and let us know if you have any other questions or suggestions.
Hi Chris,
We are working on this feature and will have it in a future release. I appreciate the feedback! Have a great day.
I purchased the app using my iPad and it is not showing on my iPhone. My other apps show on both devices. Any advice?
Hi Ed,
Are you checking under iPad apps on your iPhone? Our iPad app and iPhone app are different and fall under their respective groupings in the iTunes store.
So do I need to purchase a different application for my phone?
Hi Ed,
You can download the Lite app for your phone and take pictures of all the cards that you need and use most of the functionality. Your iPad app purchase comes with 1 year of our WebSync service which will allow your iPhone and iPad to sync cards automatically between themselves as well as giving you a browser based view of your cards at http://www.scanbizcards.com/websync.
I am trying to add a new folder. I’m getting a pop up box asking me to enter the name of the new folder, but I can’t add it anywhere on the popup box, nor am I seeing a field for this. Can you help?
Hi Charles,
We are coming out with a new version of the app that fixes this functionality flaw with iOS7 shortly. Stay tuned to the app store and the blog and we will let you know when the new version is released. Sorry for this inconvenience!
Hello,
I have recently upgraded to the pro app on iPhone. The app crashed on export to salesforce. Everything is normal including all the default fields being picked up from my salesforce account. But once i’m done adding details into all required fields and tap on export to salesforce button, the app just closes. Need help!
Hi Anirudh
Can you please submit a case to us at info@scanbizcards.com ? We will be better able to assist you there! I would check your custom field settings within your app and make sure they reflect the required fields within your personal Salesforce account, however, I still recommend sending in a ticket to info@ so we can more quickly assist you.
I have a new phone and I do not know how to move my cards from my old phone to my new phone?
John, Please submit a ticket to info@scanbizcards.com and they will get you straightened out in no time.
Thanks!
I have multiple business card photos which I managed to take before getting the app. Can I upload the photos in bulk? I can only find a way to import and scan one by one …
Hi Chris. Sorry but at this time there is no way to bulk upload previously taken photos. We’ll be working on this feature in the future.
I just upgraded to the full version. I need to move my cards – but I did the free trial version of WebSync awhile back when I just had Lite.
Is that the only way to move contacts? Can you give me another trial?
Hi Stephanie,
Please submit a ticket to info@scanbizcards.com and you will be able to get an extended trial to move your cards. Thanks!
I cant create a new folder, is not posible enter name of folder.
Hi Dolores. Please send an email to info@scanbizcards.com They will be able to help you out. Please include your device, app edition (lite or premium), and app version.
Thanks!
